Copper Plate Etchings
My theme for this project was “Nature’s Resilience” which focuses on how pigeons live in urban settings. The etchings reflect the way pigeons exist in the city, darting through wires, nesting in forgotten corners, and making a home in a place not built for them.
Aquatint
Created with an etching needle on hardground covered copper and submerged in ferric chloride.
Ferric chloride painted directly on a copper plate with a brush to create a smokey effect.
Spraypaint was used to coat a plate and areas were blocked out with hardground to create shadows.
Hardground Etching
Spitbite
Marbling
Hardground was dipped into a tray of lukewarm water and swirled around. The copper plate was submerged, picking up the pattern, and etched in ferric chloride.
